Welcome to the Northridge Marine Sustainability Group.

Understanding interactions between Threatened and Protected species and human activities in the marine environment

We are a group of researchers at the Scottish Oceans Institute who focus on improving understanding of, and where necessary, resolving species interactions with human activities (particularly fisheries and renewable energy) in marine and freshwater environments. We work extensively on fisheries bycatch, depredation and species habitat use. We work closely with industry, regulators, academics, NGO’s and domestic and international governments by providing the data, analysis and interpretation needed to support the sustainable use of renewable marine resources. Our cutting edge science and experience helps us inform marine policy in the UK and at a regional and global level.

Our group was founded and continues to be inspired by the late Professor Simon Northridge (1960-2024).
