Aquaculture and Marine Mammals

We work with industry partners and regulators to investigate interactions between salmon aquaculture and a range of marine mammal species. Key topics of our work include:

• Depredation by grey and harbour seals
• Assessment of seal management strategies, especially the use of acoustic deterrents (seal scarers)
• Underwater noise impacts

Recent projects have incuded the collation and analysis of industry data on the use and efficacy of acoustic deterrents (report to the Scottish Government).
